FAQ

How long do I take off work after surgery?

This is up to individual circumstance. We can provide clearer timelines for certain surgeries given descriptions of your work/home environment and if necessary provide Medical Certificates.

How long do I wear TED Stockings after surgery?

TED stockings are recommended post operatively to reduce swelling and lower the risk of developing a blood clot in the legs. It is our standard protocol for Joint Replacement patients to wear TED stockings for 6 Weeks after surgery.

When can I drive after having Joint Replacement Surgery?

We recommend 4-6 weeks post Joint Replacement Surgery depending on your individual recovery speed, the car’s transmission and the side of surgery. We will happily advise you at your review appointments after surgery.

What do I bring to hospital?

There is comprehensive information available – See our link to hospital pre-admission guides for Mater Private and Greenslopes Private.

Do I go to Rehab after Surgery?

After Surgery if it is deemed necessary you will be transferred to care provided by a Rehab Unit. Hospital staff will make the arrangements for your transfer. As it is a transfer within the facility a ‘new admission’ hospital excess for this transfer is not generated.

When do I come back for a review appointment after my operation?

We schedule your first post-operative appointment in advance and these are written on the paperwork you received prior to surgery. Please make a note of that appointment on your calendar and arrange friends or family or transport to bring you to the time and location recorded. The cost of this visit is included in your surgical fees.

Should you need to cancel an appointment, please give at least 24 hours notice so that we can offer that time to another patient.

Please keep your details with us up to date eg Contact details and Health fund details. Hospital bookings and Pre-admission Nurses will contact you prior to your surgery date to confirm arrangements for admission.

Is there parking?

Paid Hospital Carparks are available at both our locations. Please refer to the detailed maps under Locations Tab. Some off street parking may be available but please abide by Clear Way and Parking Meter signs. For our Mater rooms the nearest Bus Station is Mater Hill Station located at Level 1 of the Mater Medical Centre.
